FROSTY GRAPEFRUIT SMOOTHIE (raw-vegan)

Smoothies are a great way to start your day. They are not only delicious but full of nutrients and vitamins to kick start your system. As some of you know, when we sleep our body repairs itself from the day before, this takes a lot out of you. Studies have shown that when you start your day with hydration and nutrients, your body will function at its best. Back to smoothies: smoothies can provide you with the hydration and nutrients that your body needs for the day ahead. Just because it is good for you doesn’t mean it shouldn’t taste GREAT! Here is a refreshing and nutrient packed one from my RUSTIC and SIMPLE SMOOTHIE COLLECTION….. (drum roll please) a FROSTY GRAPEFRUIT SMOOTHIE. Not only is this a breakfast smoothie but it is a wonderful non-alcoholic alternative to those sugar mixed drinks at a party. It is made with apple, grapefruit and banana; a winning combination for sure. Your taste-buds will dance, so will your body over this creamy frosty smoothie. So blend up this recipe, raise your glass and CHEERS to OUR HEALTH!

NOTE: this recipe was made for sharing but it can easily be broken down into a single serving

SERVES 2 large smoothies or 4 small smoothies

1 organic fuji apple, do NOT peel, core and quarter

1/4 cup water

1 cup ice cubes

2 organic ruby red grapefruits

1/2 large organic banana

Peel your grapefruit and cut into medium chunks and set aside, reserve the peel for another recipe and discard the seeds. In your blender, puree the apple and water until smooth. Add the ice and blend until smooth. Now add the grapefruit chunks and blend on high for 1 minute. Add the banana and blend on high 1 minute until creamy. Pour into the serving glasses and ENJOY!!

IF YOU ARE MAKING FOR A PARTY: Blend the smoothie according to the directions above MINUS the ice. Pour this base into a container and refrigerate until ready to use (up to 5 hours). Now in your blender, fine chop your ice and add the smoothie base and blend until smooth. Pour into your serving glasses and ENJOY!
