ORANGE 50/50 SMOOTHIE (raw-vegan)
You don’t have to be a kid to love the taste of a 50/50 bar. I remember when I was a kid, we could hear the ice cream truck from a mile away. We would race to the end of the street salivating for the treats that were before us. One of my favorite treats was the orangesicle or 50/50 pop. The flavor of orange and vanilla was a winning combination, and still is. In honor of nostalgia, I thought about recreating this combination in my healthy ORANGE 50/50 SMOOTHIE. Now that I am a big kid, I still like the flavors but not so much sugar. No worries, this smoothie is naturally sweet and will take you back to the summers of your childhood. This is a great smoothie for kids too! With fresh oranges and coconut water, it will start your morning right. This is an excellent way to end the day too; mix and freeze for 30 minutes then serve it as a frosty dessert.. everyone will love it.
SERVES 1 LARGE SMOOTHIE, MAKES 2 SMALL SMOOTHIES, OR 4 FROZEN DESSERTS
1/2 cup ice
2 small organic ripe navel oranges
2 small organic ripe Cara Cara oranges
1 cup fresh organic young thai coconut water
1/4 tsp. organic raw natural vanilla extract
Peel the oranges and medium dice the fruit, reserve the peels for another recipe like ORANGE PEEL GRINDER. In your blender, chop the ice fine. Now add the diced oranges and blend on high for 2 minutes. Add the coconut water and vanilla extract and blend on high for 2 minutes until smooth.
IF SINGLE SERVING: pour into your serving glass and enjoy
IF DOUBLE SERVING: pour evenly into the serving glasses and serve
IF SERVING AS A FROSTY DESSERT: pour evenly into 4 freezer proof serving dishes, set level in your freezer and freeze for 30 minutes, serve
